Smoking And Periodontal Surgery
We are aware of how smoking affects our lungs and other systems of our body. Smoking is one of the major risk factor for periodontal and gum disease development, tooth loss also linked with. In the most recent study, it is shown that when a dental patient has a periodontal surgery, smoking can greatly damage the ability of that procedure to stay intact over a long period of time. Smoking's negative side effects should be made aware to smokers as it can be costly to repeat the periodontal surgery. Periodontal and gum disease treatment is less likely to be successful with smokers than with non-smokers however effects may be reverse if patient stops smoking.
Proper oral health hygiene is the most important thing in preventing periodontal and gum diseases that includes brushing and flossing of teeth daily and combined with natural health care products that will prevent bacteria build up. And smokers must pay close attention to their oral health hygiene and treating gum disease and it can be avoided entirely.
